Russian-born concert pianist Nikita Lukinov presents a captivating programme exploring the expressive and virtuosic possibilities of the piano, featuring two monumental works of the repertoire: Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and Franz Liszt’s Piano Sonata in B minor.

Nikita Lukinov is one of Scotland’s most exciting concert pianists, acclaimed for his “extraordinary breadth and freedom of imagination” (Gramophone), described as a “true master of storytelling through music” (The Pianist), and named a “Rising Star” by BBC Music Magazine.
He has performed as a soloist in major venues across the UK, Europe and Asia, including London’s Wigmore Hall, Southbank Centre, Bechstein Hall and Steinway Hall; Edinburgh’s Usher Hall and St Giles’ Cathedral; Palau de la Música (Barcelona), the Verbier Festival, Fazioli Hall (Italy), Guangzhou Opera House, Shanghai Opera House, and the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow. His live and studio performances have been broadcast on BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio Scotland and Scala Radio.
A defining milestone came during the 2024/25 season, when Nikita completed a 40- concert tour across Scotland, from the Borders to the Orkney Islands. The tour included appearances at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Perth Concert Hall, Inverness Town Hall and the St Magnus Festival. Alongside his recital work, he led outreach performances in care homes and special education schools, reflecting his commitment to bringing world-class music-making to communities with limited access to live classical performance.
In 2025 he was awarded Third Prize at the Málaga International Piano Competition before embarking on a recital and masterclass tour of China, with appearances at Beijing University, Guangzhou Opera House, Chengdu Concert Hall, Suzhou Opera House and Shanghai Opera House.
Highlights of the 2026/27 season include recital tours across the UK, Italy, China and India, alongside concerto performances with orchestras throughout Scotland. New artistic projects include collaborations with visual artists, improvisation-based performances, and innovative concert formats designed to bring classical music to new audiences.
Originally from Russia, Nikita studied on full scholarships at The Purcell School before completing his Bachelor’s, Master’s and Artist Diploma degrees with distinction at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Since 2021 he has served on the piano faculty at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, becoming one of the youngest senior faculty members across the UK’s Royal Schools of Music. His debut recording, Kaleidoscope, featuring rarely performed works by Tchaikovsky, Scriabin and Prokofiev, was released by KNS Classical in 2023.
During his studies, Nikita worked with many of today’s leading pianists, including Sir András Schiff, Sir Stephen Hough, Kirill Gerstein, Steven Osborne, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Dang Thai Son and many others.
